HOW IT WORKS

01

Write

Students were tasked with the creation of a story based on their very own characters.  Each story will be an original story told by the students that would later be envisioned in a game.  Students would choose the tone , theme, characters , struggles and accomplishments that would be later adapted into a video game.

02

Design

In this phase of the project students would envision how their story would be told in a different medium.  Their video game will be a visual representation of their story.  Characters essentially pop off the pages and become an actual playable character.  They would design the game according to how their story was told.

03

Play

Completion of the game meant completion of the story.  What better way to endulge their readers then to play a game designed by the author.

ABOUT

Project at a glance

Tell me a story

Are you a villain? the Hero? or are you a slice of pizza looking for the lost Pepperoni?  It's your idea, your story and you're completely in charge! Student choice is key to a complete and thought out story the student can be excited and invested in.

Where's my power up?

Game creation through story elements.  Using their written story students choose the elements that would make up their game.   The task requires students to establish essential and non-essential information that will comprise the game.   This activity requires the student to learn the limitations of their game and adapt and overcome their struggles.

Challenge

It's not a story or a game, but the creation of a brand.  Students were challenged to design their characters in a 3d workspace to be 3d printed.  Essentially students were creating a toy that will be marketed to their audience.
